Day 2 in Portugal

Hello All!  After a very good night's sleep, we started this morning with some exercise in the "gymnasium" and then headed to the dining room for a European breakfast.  We then got cleaned up, packed up and checked out of our Pousada.
Pousada - you are probably wondering what we are talking about when we say that we are staying at a Pousada.  They are historical buildings (castles, monasteries, convents, etc) that are government owned and independently operated as hotels here in Portugal.  The Pousada that we are in tonight is a castle that was built in the 12th century.  Yes, it is very old!!  They have very nice restaurants and great facilities.  Last night, the reception room, dining room and bar were all in an old castle and the guest rooms were in an old flour mill.

We then said goodbye to Porto and drove to Obidos.  It is a very small, quaint town.  We walked down the main street and had some lunch and then came to our hotel.  Unfortunately, because this is such an old building and up on a very high hill, we had to carry our bags up at least 50 steep cobblestone steps (Big Papa was loving that!).  After lunch, we had a bottle of wine while sitting in the garden reading.  Tonight was dinner here at the Posada, and it was lovely!  The view was spectacular and the service great.  After a glass of port, we retired to our room to do this post.  Tomorrow is off to Lisbon.
